Assistant Secretary Jeffrey Feltman Visits Lebanon

Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern  Affairs Jeffrey Feltman visited Lebanon today and met with senior officials to  discuss the political, economic, and security situation in Lebanon, developments  in Syria, and other regional issues.  
Assistant Secretary Feltman and U.S. Ambassador to  Lebanon Maura Connelly met with President of the Chamber of Deputies Speaker  Nabih Berri, Progressive Socialist Party Leader MP Walid Jumblatt, Lebanese  Forces Party President Dr. Samir Geagea, Maronite Bishop of Beirut Boulous  Matar, and March 14 politicians.  Assistant Secretary Feltman and Ambassador  Connelly also conveyed their condolences for the passing of the President of the  Druze Spiritual Committee Sheikh Abu Mohammad Jawad Walieddin in Baaqline.   Assistant Secretary Feltman also visited with Monsignor Mansour Labaki and  toured the Kfar Sama Orphanage. 
Assistant Secretary Feltman expressed the United States' steadfast support for pluralistic and democratic governments in the region that protect the rights of all citizens, including ethnic and religious minorities.
He renewed the United States' commitment to a stable, sovereign and independent Lebanon.
