U.S. Embassy Beirut Statement on the Parliamentary Elections

U.S. Embassy Beirut congratulates the Lebanese people for holding a national election on May 6, its first in nine years.  We also recognize the Lebanese Armed Forces and Internal Security Forces, which provided the security measures for the Lebanese people to exercise their voting rights safely.
As Lebanon looks ahead to forming a new government, we urge all parties to uphold Lebanon's international obligations, including those contained in UN Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1701, and Lebanon's policy of disassociation from foreign conflicts.  We hope Lebanon's next government will continue along the path toward building a stable and secure Lebanon that is committed to peace and responsive to the needs of the Lebanese people.
