U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) led a Congressional delegation that concluded a one-day visit to Lebanon on Monday.  The delegation's meetings with Prime Minister Hariri, Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Joseph Aoun, and UNIFIL Deputy Head of Mission Imran Riza focused on security cooperation between the United States and Lebanon.  The delegation also visited the Bekaa Valley, where they met with local officials and beneficiaries of a USAID water project in Rassieh.

The Rassieh water facility operated by the Bekaa Water Establishment (BWE) comprises of a Pump Station and Water Treatment Plant that treats and pumps 320m³ of drinking water per hour, to approximately 28,580 people in the city of Zahle. USAID, under a previous project, upgraded the facility's water testing laboratory including rehabilitation of the building, provision of equipment, and training of technicians.  Today, USAID is continuing to provide assistance to BWE under the Lebanon Water Project (LWP). USAID's assistance has helped and continues to help BWE improve the water supply service for citizens throughout Zahleh and the Bekaa region.
