January 28, 2009

Members of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) graduated from a five-day U.S. Air Force sponsored training course in Medical Air Evacuation and Hospital Prioritization Training on January 16.  The U.S. Central Command and Air Force Central Command Surgeon Generals attended the graduation ceremony and met with the LAF Medical Command leadership to discuss future training possibilities.
This course, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, promotes skills sharing between the United States and Lebanon.  Training is carried out in accordance with LAF requests, focused on areas LAF leadership identifies as necessary.  This program is a component of a comprehensive U.S. military assistance program to Lebanon.
The overall goal of U.S. military assistance to Lebanon is to strengthen the LAF and increase its capacity to defend Lebanon's borders.  Since 2006, the United States has allocated over $410 million to the LAF.  The United States is committed to building the capabilities of the LAF and it will continue to support the government of Lebanon and the LAF as they continue their efforts to safeguard the peace, unity and sovereignty of Lebanon.
